Jim Maxka, DPM
Jim Maxka, DPM is a board certified podiatric physician and surgeon with 12 years of experience.
Dr. Maxka began his undergraduate education at the University of North Carolina where he earned a degree in comparative literature. He then earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, and did research and taught at Northern Arizona University and Carnegie Mellon for 15 years. Dr. Maxka then went on to graduate from podiatric medical school at the Midwestern University School of Podiatric Medicine in Glendale, AZ in 2010, earning his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine. He finished his medical training with a four-year podiatric residency at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in 2014 where he concentrated in rear foot surgery. This was followed by a research fellowship in podiatric medicine and surgery at UPenn which he completed in 2015.
Dr. Maxka is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and board qualified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery in foot and rearfoot surgery. He is affiliated with UPMC Pinnacle Hanover.

Amanda Pires, DPM
Amanda Pires, DPM is a highly-trained podiatric physician and surgeon in practice since 2020.
Dr. Pires attended the University of California, Davis where she graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. She then embarked on a four-year post-baccalaureate program, earning a Pre-Professional Health Academic Program Certificate from the California State University, East Bay, in Hayward, CA. Medical school followed at Des Moines University of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, in Des Moines, IA., where Dr. Pires achieved her Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine in 2020. This was followed by a three-year surgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center—UPMC Medical Education Harrisburg Podiatric Surgical Residency (PMSR/RRA)—where Dr. Pires also served as Podiatric Surgery Representative for UPMC’s Infection Control, and Ethics Committees.
Dr. Pires holds professional memberships with the American Podiatric Medical Association, and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. She was a Student Chapter Member of the American Association for Women Podiatrists at Des Moines University of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. She maintains medical certifications in a variety of concentrations, and has always been very active volunteering her time for various non-profit, community organizations.
Dr. Pires is fluent in English, and has a limited working proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese.
